Leeds Festival will have Green Messengers in the campsites again in 2008, talking to campers to encourage them to be environmentally aware in the disposal of their rubbish, particularly in packing up their camping site. All Green Messenger volunteer positions are now full!

If you would like to help reduce the festival’s environmental impact, please apply to Team Recycle here: http://www.247recruit.com/employer-profile_Leisure_Support_Services_-_Leeds_Festival_620.aspx

And last but not least! The "Love Not Riots" campaign was started up in 2006 by two festival goers to promote the festival communities wellbeing and enjoyment.

This is how they describe their campaign:

Whether you have been a victim of the events previously present at the festivals or just think it is wrong to risk putting people's safety in danger, we need your support and you need a free "Love Not Riots" badge to join the massive following of Reading & Leeds Festival Fans that we have already hooked!

The simple message the Love Not Riots stands for is that everyone deserves to leave the festival safe and happy and should not have their safety jeopardised as a result of someone else's behaviour / enjoyment.  And that we all have a duty to protect our fellow festival goers in order for everyone to have the most awesome weekend possible. If we make one possible rioter listen and change their views of how to enjoy the festival then the campaign will have worked and been worth every second!

There WILL come a time when the authorities take into account the destructive behaviour of previous festivals and say enough is enough and the Reading and Leeds Festival will be no more.

More information on how to get hold of this years campaign T shirts, vest tops and badges will be made available shortly on their new website and myspace page - visit

www.lovenotriots.com  www.myspace.com/lovenotriotscampaign

At Leeds Festival we aim to reduce the environmental impact of the festival and offer you ways of enjoying yourself while also doing your part to reduce your impact.

Result!

At Leeds Festival 2007 we introduced several new initiatives including the beer cup deposit and refunds, where more than 90% of the pint cups were collected for recycling. Well done everyone for getting into the project. Some people took it on with a lot of vigour, making some extra cash... The record was 1000 cups handed in in one go!!!

A big thank you to everyone who PACKED IT UP AND HANDED IT IN in 2007. Our Give Me Shelter campaign went through the roof last year. Festival goers donated thousands of camping items such as tents, sleeping bags, camping mats, etc for reuse by international charity broker Global Hand, rather than these making their way to landfill. We were overloaded with gear and it took our Green Messengers a lot of work to sort out everything, but we were so very happy with the result.

This Year

This year we are looking at more ways to reduce the impact the festival has on the environment. We'll be putting a deposit/refund on all paper cups sold over the bars so we can collect even more cups for recycling.

We hope to encourage you all to take your camping gear home rather than donating it (though we do love to pass your gear onto charity). But the best way is to take it home and re-use it for your next festival.

We'll be expanding our Tent Recycling program to include much more Resource Recovery. We hope to salvage as many of the re-usable items left by campers as possible. You can really help by taking your stuff to the donation points around the campgrounds.

If you want a clean body and a clear conscience we’ve got good news for you. Our friends at Ecover have provided you environmentally sound shower gel to use. It’s biodegradable, leaving no harmful residues on the land or in the water after use. Please use the shower gel provided if you have not brought your own ecological version.

Leeds Festival has been planned in compliance with BS8901, Phase 1.

Read through the various items on the left hand menu bar for more info on what’s in store in 2008.

Leeds Festival is increasing its environmental responsibility by this year including 200 Team Recycle stewards. If you missed out on a ticket to the festival, or other stewarding positions, have a passion for the environment, know a bit about recycling, and want to help get the festival goers to recycle as much as possible, then please join Team Recycle. You will be at recycling points around the festival, in the campgrounds and the arena, showing people which bin to put their recycling in.

Typical duties of a volunteer include:

·     Proactively helping festival patrons to recycle their litter.
·     Covering an area in the campsites or arena to ensure recycling practices are maximised.
·     Helping to keep litter collection areas clean and free from overflowing bins.
·     Advising festival patrons on where to deposit materials, developing awareness.
·     Supporting and aiding the cleaning teams to keep the site clean.

In return for their efforts all volunteers are provided with:
·     A festival site pass
·     A Team Recycle info pack
·     A Team Recycle hi-vis t-shirt
·     All necessary personal protective equipment.

In order to receive a free ticket to the Festival, your terms will include:

·     Be 18 or over.
·     Be available to arrive at the Festival site by 17.00 on Wednesday 20 August.  Therefore be available for a briefing at 18:00 on that Wednesday.
·     Be available to work a 6 hour shift each day on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (a total of 24 hours) from either 10.00 – 16.00 in the campsites or 11.00 – 17.00 in the Arena.
·     Wear a Team Recycle t-shirt when on-shift.
·     Report in at the beginning of the shift and then every two hours to your area supervisor, or immediately in the case of any problems.
·     Provide a deposit of £195.  Subject to the fulfillment of the terms and job description through out the duration of the event, the deposit will be fully refunded.

All volunteers are welcome to enjoy the festival when they are off-shift.  This includes being able to camp with their friends in the main campsites.  Team Recycle volunteers can therefore contribute directly to creating a great festival atmosphere, whilst seeing the bands when off shift.

To apply Team Recycle volunteers need to initially register online and they will subsequently be contacted to progress their application.

Between us we have made massive progress in capturing any unwanted gas canisters and aerosols from the campsites during and after the show and last year we have had about 3,000 handed in by you, which is fantastic.  When the canisters are handed in to the campsite zone managers caravan they in return then give back a raffle ticket which also means that every day some very lucky people win tickets to Leeds and Glastonbury 2009 as a result of winning the raffle.

Winners names are announced from the main stage each night.

The canisters don’t need to be empty, they can be any sort of canister or aerosol, and you can hand them in at any time 24 hours a day  to the campsite zone managers caravan whilst the campsites are open – including Bank Holiday Monday morning to enter the Monday raffle draw.

Whilst packing up to leave  have a quick scout around you and see if there are any lying around that others have left and take them to the caravan and enter the draw that way!

This is a scheme that we are very keen to develop as every canister handed in means that there is one less for idiots to throw on fires for dangerous effect.  In 2005 an innocent victim suffered serious and permanent disfigurement when a gas canister was thrown on a fire near him and this is something that we have to stop.

We have upped our zero tolerance campaign on this type of behaviour this year and anyone seen to have, or even thought to have, thrown a canister, aerosol or can on a fire will be evicted from the festival immediately.

You can also help us further by reporting any concerns that you have about the campsites and other campers by talking to the zone manager in your campsite.  They will watch over anyone that has been reported to them and you will not be identified at any point without your consent.

Let’s make 2008 the best year yet in terms of safe campsites and please also see the Love Not Riots button on this website for further information.

There are several bars onsite. They should be able to take Debit and Credit cards as well as cash. Bar staff will ask for proof of age ID whenever the customer appears to be under 18. Proof of the attainment of 18 years of age will be required before you are able to buy alcohol.

If there is any doubt as to the age of the customer they will be refused service. The onus is on the individual to demonstrate unequivocally that they are 18 years old or over and if the individual cannot do so they will not be served. This must be evidenced by a Portman Proof of Age Card, Citizen Card, valid UK Card or by a full or provisional photo card driving licence issued by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority or by a passport.

No unaccompanied under 16's. Any under 16's must be accompanied by an over 18 year old. Under 13 (12 and under) are admitted free but MUST be accompanied by a ticket holding adult.

Please note that there is no separate children's area at this event and that there is NO Family Camping at the event either.  Brown campsite has historically been our quiet campsite and so those who wish for somewhere away from the hub may wish to camp there.

Leeds Festival will have Green Messengers in the campsites again in 2008, talking to campers to encourage them to be environmentally aware in the disposal of their rubbish, particularly in packing up their camping site. We are keen to alert festival goers to the environmental impact of burning tents and possessions instead of taking them home or donating them.

Anyone that is evicted for anti social behaviour such as deliberately starting large bonfires, throwing missiles at staff or throwing gas canisters or aerosols or similar on fires will receive a life time ban to all festivals that Festival Republic and Live Nation promote including Glastonbury and Download. Their details will also be passed on to West Yorkshire Police.
Family Camping is situated in the Brown Campsite next to the Campervans. Please ask stewards to direct you there.

Please note that there are no special facilities in the Family Campsite, but there are water points, toilets as usual.
Are you the next superstar DJ? Does your heart race at the thought of banging out your favourite tunes to a baying crowd of campers at Leeds Festival? If this sounds like you, bring your best tunes with you and get yourself down to the campsite office in your zone early to earn yourself a 20 – 30 minute slot to play later that evening.

The drop off and pick up point is located in the Red Day Car Park / Drop Off accessed via Red Gate 1 on the A64 travelling eastbound. You can drive into the site, drop off or pick up passengers by the entrance to the campsites and then travel out of site via Red Gate 2 which leads you back to the A64. Please follow the signage.

Please come straight into site as there is absolutely NO STOPPING allowed on the A64 or at the gates. Once well inside the site you will be able to park up, obtain information and exit back onto the A64.

There are drinking water points throughout the campsites and arena. They are all signed as suitable for drinking and the supply is tested daily. Any broken taps or flooding should be reported to the nearest steward or CAT member.

• THERE IS A STRICT CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS. WE ARE UNABLE TO PROCESS LATE APPLICATIONS OR APPLICATIONS MADE ON SITE.

Limiting the amount of STUFF you kit yourself out with the come camping at the festivals for the weekend, will really help to reduce the overall environmental...especially if you are going to throw out your STUFF after the event.

The more STUFF you buy, the bigger your carbon footprint related to you coming to the festival. Your STUFF is mined, manufactured, distributed, retailed and makes its way to your house - transport along the way, power used at every stage. The less STUFF you buy, the smaller your footprint's gonna be.

Before you buy anything for the festival (or even in everyday life), please take the time to watch this 20min film The Story of Stuff with Annie Leonard.

www.storyofstuff.com

'From its extraction through sale, use and disposal, all the stuff in our lives affects communities at home and abroad, yet most of this is hidden from view. The Story of Stuff is a 20 minute, fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and consumption patterns.'

And when you decide to buy stuff, please think about taking it home with you and re-using it for the rest of the season. If you really don't need it, please PACK IT UP AND HAND IT IN!!!

We will have separate collection bays for:

* Tents, Sleeping Mats, Sleeping Bags
* Chairs
* General camping bits and pieces
* Wellies
* Clothes
* Unopened food

Look out for the collection points that will pop up on Monday morning on your way out of the campgrounds.

There will be frequent shuttle buses running from Leeds City Railway Station and Leeds Coach Station to Bramham Park. There is also a service from York Station on Thursday and back to York Station on Monday.
PDF
Click here to download the full timetable in Excel (.xls) format.

The shuttle bus stops will be signposted from the Railway Stations and Coach Station.

www.geldardscoaches.co.uk are operating the shuttle service during the Leeds Festival.

There is plenty of capacity on the buses for all of your stuff and you will not have to walk far to the campsites onsite from the bus station nor will you have to walk far from the Railway Station / Coach Station to the bus stop.

The shuttle bus service will also run to and from the Tesco Extra supermarket at Seacroft so that you can go and stock up on essentials although there is also a supermarket onsite selling everything you might need at the registered retail price. Consider using the shuttle bus to get to and from Tescos if you need to go there as it is likely to be much quicker and easier than leaving the site with your car and coming back in again.

Using public transport and the shuttle bus is the best way to arrive at Leeds Festival. The shuttle buses get you nearer to a festival entrance than any other means of arriving onsite, they run regularly, the operation should be smooth and hassle free and there will be enough shuttle buses to meet the demand.

The shuttle buses will drop you off very close to the railway station or bus station and you will not have to queue as long to get on a shuttle bus as you would in a car to get to or leave the car park. Plus you can make friends on the way, enjoy a drink and feel good about your reduced impact on the environment and the fact that a part of your fare is being donated to charity!

The fares for this year's shuttle bus service are being held at the same price as last year to encourage you to use it. The journey time from Leeds to Bramham Park is around 45 minutes.

The shuttle bus fares are:
£4 single from Leeds Railway / Coach Station to Bramham Park
£7.50 open return from Leeds Railway / Coach Station or York to / from Bramham Park (£7 if booked in advance)
£5 cheap day return from Leeds Railway / Coach Station to / from Bramham Park
£15 travel card - as many journeys as you like to any of the destinations from Wednesday to Monday.
£3 return to Tescos.

You can buy tickets on the bus or at the bus station onsite at Yellow Gate or you can book on 0113 263 9491 (office hours)

SHUTTLE BUS SERVICES SUMMARY

Service X28 will start and finish at Leeds City Bus Station calling at Sovereign Street for Leeds Rail Station. Returning journeys will call at Sovereign Street first then the Bus Station.
Service X29 will run between the Bramham and Tescos at Seacroft.
Service X30 will run between York and the festival site.

LOCAL BUS SERVICES

Leeds Festival may have an impact on local roads in the Bramham area due to the heavier traffic conditions expected and this may have an impact on local bus services in the area.

o Candles are dangerous; torches are far less of a fire risk in and around tents.
o Watch out for flying embers and sparks, as they could start a fire, even from some distance.
o Don't burn plastic or any other toxic materials.
o Never use petrol or paraffin to start or revive a fire.
o If you cook, always do it outside, ensure that there is constant supervision and keep well away from any flammable materials.
Each day we will be holding a 5 a side football tournament. Register your team to play by emailing your team name and players to bramhamfc@ntlworld.com. We will then respond direct with date / times for a match.

Leeds City Council have again given us the go ahead to allow small campfires fuelled by clean wood in the campsites but not bonfires. Small campfires are ones where the flame itself is below knee height and less than one pace wide.

They will be monitored and will have to be put out if they are exceeding these limits. We have a firewood trader onsite so that you can buy clean wood for your small campfires. Campfires are not allowed in the arena or in the car parks.

Friday 22nd August - Arena opens 11am
Saturday 23rd August - Arena opens 11am
Sunday 24th August - Arena opens 11am

Any changes to the running order are passed on to the Information Tent and will be published in locations onsite, e.g. the campsite zone managers' caravans.
No unaccompanied under 16's. Any under 16's must be accompanied by an over 18 year old. Under 13 (12 and under) are admitted free but MUST be accompanied by a ticket holding adult. Please note that there is no separate children's area at this event.

The Leeds Festival will have an impact on the local roads in the Bramham area due to the heavier traffic conditions expected.

Local bus services within the Cross Gates, Scholes, Seacroft, Tadcaster and Wetherby areas will not be diverted but may be subject to delay, however for the latest information on local bus services during the festival visit www.wymetro.com, call MetroLine on 0113 245 7676 or register with Metro Messenger.

No fires at all are allowed in the arena. No fires at all are allowed in the car parks. Anyone seen creating a bonfire or fire in the arena or the car parks will be subject to being evicted from the festival site on the spot.

If you must bring gas to the festival please follow the guidelines below:

Before coming to the festival have your equipment serviced.
•  Never light a gas cooker inside your tent.
•  Always store any spare canisters out of doors.
•  "EMPTY" canisters may not be completely empty. When you've removed it from your stove, store it upright outside your tent for a while to allow any gas that may be in it to evaporate before bringing it to the gas canister exchanges at the campsite offices where it will be disposed of safely and you will have the chance to enter the competition.
•  Never change gas cylinders inside your tent.
•  Never hold gas cylinders upside down when changing.
•  Never use a naked flame to search for a leak.
•  NEVER put a camping gas cylinder on a fire or try to heat it artificially. This can prove fatal. Anyone seen doing so, or even thought to have done so, will be evicted from site.
•  Check the colour of the flame: If the flame is burning blue it's fine. If it's burning with an orange or yellow flame or is creating sooty stains on your stove you may have a problem with your stove, don't use it.
•  Never attempt to refill a gas canister. If you smell gas or think you have a leak turnoff if possible. Evacuate the area and get help from a steward or on site fire team. Remember the on-site fire team are there to answer your questions.

Every year, thousands of tents, sleeping bags and camping mats are left behind after the festival, along with things like wellies, radios, and clothes. We encourage you to pack your gear up and take it home, ready for your next festival weekend. Not only will you save money, you’re helping the environment by not being wasteful and not giving fuel to those that are looking for abandoned gear to destroy in fires sending up toxic fumes into the air.

If you really don’t want your camping gear, please pack it up and hand it into the Give Me Shelter Tent Recycling points in the campgrounds. Donated gear will make their way to charitable and community organisations.

Your festival kit could help:
•  Give shelter for families caught up in disasters such as earthquakes, famine and conflict
•  Give children from impoverished backgrounds the chance to have fun at a summer camp
•  Give emergency staff shelter and storage space for vital medical and educational materials

Don't dump it. Don't destroy it. Donate it

IMPORTANT: NEWS ABOUT YOUR TENT!
We need you to take down your tents and hand them in. It is simply impossible for us to take down so many tents. We will, however, check all tents handed in. If they are good quality, they will be distributed to people in need, locally and in many places on the planet.

Tents left standing will go to landfill and damage our environment:
So, don’t leave your tent. Pack it. Hand it in. Change lives!

The Welfare Tent is situated in the Village Area and is open 24 hours from 2pm on Wednesday to noon on Monday and offers general welfare, assistance and advice, a drugs advisory service, counselling, a messages service and they will help distressed / missing people.

The Welfare Tent also offers a recovery area for patients from medical and emergency shelter in a Crash tent with camper mats and sleeping bags.

There is also a book here that you can add your comments to.

We would love to hear from you if you are already coming to Leeds Festival and would like to become a 'Festival Supporter' and help us secure the festival's future. We really want to build on the work we have done in previous years to make our campsites friendlier, safer and cleaner and to create a good atmosphere.

What we are hoping is that you will pledge your support to the future of the festival by keeping your eyes and ears open and letting us know when you spot any problems either with the facilities or with something happening.

There is no 'work' involved, we are just hoping that you would go to the nearest CAT or HAT if you saw or heard of a problem and report it to them so that we can take action.

If you would like to know more about the Festival Supporters scheme, then please email hblake@festivalrepublic.com

Disabled customers will be provided with one free ticket for their helper, where required.

Your confirmation letter will contain full information on what to do on arrival. We’ll also send a site map and car pass.

Come to the Guest List with your ticket & confirmation letter; your details will be on the Disabled Customer list. We will provide all necessary wristbands for you and the person accompanying you.

The following are tips for you include:

• Minimise the amount of packaging on products purchased
• Avoid buying over-packaged goods and individual portion packs
• Buy durable products, returnable bottles and containers that can be re-filled
• Look out for recycled goods and those packaged in recycled materials
• Cut down on packaging by buying your fruit and vegetables loose
• Buy fair-trade and organic food, drinks and products at stalls if possible
• Use re-sealable containers to keep your food fresh (this reduces the amount of plastic film and aluminium foil you throw away)
• Use rechargeable batteries
• Where you can, recycle what you cannot reuse
• Don't drop your litter. Use the bins and recycling units!
• Litter pickers are lovely! Please help them and make up for 'messy' times
• Don't leave rubbish or indeed your entire camping set behind!
• Say no to plastic bags if offered by market vendors. Bring your own re-useable cloth bag.
• Please please please don’t drop your cigarette butts. Every butt you throw on the ground has to be picked up by someone else. Use an empty film canister to collect your butts.
• Separate your waste at your campsite and bring your recycling to the appropriate bins.
• Use public transport and our shuttle bus service if possible, or look for a lift through our Car Share Schemes.
• If you must use your car, then please consider a Car Share scheme. Making sure your tyres are properly inflated will mean that your car will run more efficiently and will reduce your carbon emissions. If you are in a queue to enter the site, please turn off your engine rather than idling the car.
• Use only phosphate free shampoo and soap in the showers and remember to take a short shower!
• Turn off taps & showers when finished.
• Live by the 'LEAVE NO TRACE' philosophy – take only photos, leave only footprints.

The campsite offices are based in caravans in each zone. They are open 24 hours and they are the bases for the Zone Managers, the CAT (Campsite Assistance) teams and they are also where the gas canister / aerosol exchange points and tent recycling points are located. The areas in front of the campsite offices will be used for the DJ parties each night so please keep these areas free from tents. They are also the place to make complaints if you want to. Especially about security if that is needed.

You must get everyone out of the tent, evacuate the area as quickly as possible and get help from the nearest steward or security who will call the onsite Fire Team.

In the campsites you can go to the nearest Fire Tower (situated around the perimeter of the campsites and easily visible). In the unlikely event that you cannot find a member of security or steward nearby then please dial 999.

You may discover a fire in its very early stages and think that you can deal with it yourself. The first thing that you should remember is that fire spreads very quickly. Even a small contained fire can quickly spread, producing smoke and fumes which can kill in seconds.

If you are in any doubt do not tackle the fire, no matter how small. You can put yourself at risk by fighting the fire. If in doubt, get out, get the onsite Fire Safety Team out, stay out.

Many people put out small fires quite safely. However, some people die or are injured by tackling fires which are beyond their capabilities. Here is a simple fire code to help you decide whether to put out or get out -
•  Only tackle a fire in its very early stages.
•  Always put your own and other peoples safety first. Make sure you can escape if you need to and never let a fire block your exit.
•  Fire extinguishers are only for fighting a fire in its very early stages. Never tackle a fire if it is starting to spread or has spread to other items nearby.
•  Around 70% of fire deaths are caused by people being overcome by smoke and fumes.

No animals are allowed onsite at all other than guide and hearing dogs.
Some festival goers have created bonfires in the past using personal items or items they have found lying around. Not only is this dangerous but it is also very polluting. Tents, metal poles and sleeping bags are extremely toxic when burnt.

Please, please do not burn them when we can put them to good use in the future. Look for the donation points in the campsite to place unwanted items, which will make their way to needy charities, and out of the hands of people wanting to pollute and destroy.
There will be information boards at each campsite office including a large "you are here map", latest running order information and other general information on all onsite services, facilities and entertainment.

It is estimated around 8 tonne of aluminium cans are at the festival after the party’s over. Much of this is left on the ground in the campgrounds. We want to let you know that YOUR CAN COUNTS. Bring back a bagful of cans to the Recycle Exchanges in the campgrounds, and we’ll give you a free can of beer. It’s that simple. We’ll even give you the bag to collect the cans in. They’ll be handed out at wristband exchange when you enter the site, by our Green Messengers wandering the campgrounds, from your campsite manager’s caravan, and also from the Litter Exchanges.

But how does YOUR CAN COUNT?

For every tonne of aluminium cans collected separate from all other waste, we are paid up to £600 a tonne, and this money is being donated to charity.
For every tonne of aluminium cans recycled, the aluminium can association of the UK, Alupro, will buy a fruit tree for projects in Malawi run by charity Ripple Africa.

For every tonne of aluminium cans recycled only 5% of energy is used than to make one from scratch.

The Litter Exchanges finish up on Sunday night so don’t forget to get your voucher and redeem your beer before the bars shut…

Arena
Friday - opens approx 11am
Saturday - opens approx 11am
Sunday - opens approx 11am

Campsite:
Opens: [Early Bird Wednesday 20th August 2pm] Thursday 8am
Closes: 12pm Monday 25th August 2008.

Overseas customers will have the choice of either collecting their tickets at the on-site box office or having tickets delivered to the registered billing address depending on the point of purchase. Refer to your point of purchase for details.

Reusable Beer Cups

In 2007 we introduced a highly successful way of drastically reducing the waste in the arena by having a 10p deposit on beer cups. In 2008 this will return, and will extend to ½ pints and also to the cardboard pint carrying trays. You’ll pay a 10p deposit, which you’ll get back when you return your cup to the refund points. Last year over 90% of the cups were returned. Just amazing – that’s more than 6 tonnes of cardboard which was diverted from landfill.

Water Bottle Deposit

To work towards getting all the plastic water bottles recycled, each bottle of water sold at the festival will have a 20p deposit charged. When you’ve finished, bring back the empty bottle to the refund points to get your 20p back. Only water sold at stores onsite will be refundable. Other plastic bottles should be placed in the recycling bins.

Campervan applications have now closed.

Those that booked through See, and were then refunded, your permit is in the post.
As are permits for those that emailed in to us.

The exact directions will be on the back of the campervan/caravan pass that we will send you nearer the event.

You will also be receiving a letter with your permit, and a copy via email. Please print a copy of this and bring with you to speed entry.

If you have any questions at the event, ask at the Guest List for Sharon Reuben (Reading) or Ola Nilsson (Leeds / Latitude). Guest List opening hours will be displayed on-site.  All events have Welfare, First Aid and Information Points.

Security Guards & Stewards are clearly identifiable by their shirts and should be able to give general assistance or information. If you experience problems dealing with staff on site, please tell us, preferably at the event.

Several disabled stewards work at Reading & Leeds Festivals.

The Information Tent is open from noon on Thursday to 1am Sunday night and reopens Monday morning at 8am until noon.

The Information Tent is located in the Village Area.

The Information Tent handles a large variety of queries from festival goers, runs a message board and has details of all local transport services etc. The latest information on the running order is available at the Information Tent.

If you must bring your car, please consider the following in the interests of the environment and also to reduce congestion:
•  Transport as many people as possible with you
•  Travel at off peak times (the peak time for arriving onsite is 08.00 to 14.00 on the Thursday)
•  Consider halving your travel costs to the festival by car sharing
No smoking in public enclosed or working areas.

There are plenty of Customer Protection Officers and Customer Support Officers in the campsites again this year.

•  Customer Protection Officers are in white tabards and are supervisors.
•  Customer Support Officers are in bottle green tabards
•  Oxfam stewards are in yellow or orange tabards
•  Campsite Assistance Teams are in turquoise tabards
•  Traffic marshals are in royal blue tabards
•  Fire marshals are in red tabards
•  Security Monitors are in light blue tabards
•  Zone Managers are in burgundy tabards and are overall managers of their zone.

If you have a complaint to make about Customer Protection or Support Officers, please make a note of their tabard number (so we can identify who you are referring to) and speak to one of the following:

Zone Managers - these are based in each campsite zone, at the arena entrance, and in the arena itself. They are dressed in burgundy coloured tabards with the title "Zone Manager" on them. Their role is to oversee their zone and to direct the actions of staff. They are completely independent from security and we have employed them in order that we have a manager in each area. Please use them.

Welfare staff - these are based in the Welfare Tent in the Village and at Yellow Gate. They are present in this tent 24 hours. They are dressed in tabards with Ministry of Welfare on them. Their role is to look after festival goers and they offer a complaints / suggestions feedback service. Please use them.

Please make good use of these staff and ask them if you need any help or if you have any concerns at all. All of the above will pass on your complaints and comments to Festival Republic straight away.

We are experiencing some difficulties with processing email enquiries for Lost Property. Please call 07527 258479 Between the hours of 5:30pm - 9:30pm Sunday-Thursday.

Many thanks,

Lost Property 2008

If you are camped in an emergency access lane, your tent will have to be moved by our security teams. If you return to your tent to find that this has occurred, please make a note of the campsite that you are in (Orange, Green etc) and go to the nearest Campsite Office or fire tower (situated near the toilet blocks) for assistance. If you are not sure about whether you are camped inappropriately or not, please check with the Campsite Assistance Teams (CATS).

If you find yourself without accommodation due to your tent being removed then please go to the Welfare Tent in the Village Area which is open 24 hours. They will be happy to help you. Thank you for your co-operation. Please note that although we will make all reasonable efforts to take care of your property, no responsibility can be taken for any items that are lost or damaged during tent removal.

The following is advice from West Yorkshire Police:

Car Keys, Cash Credit Cards, Mobile Phones, Wallets, Purses and other valuable items should be kept with you at all times. Do not leave them in unattended vehicles or tents.

Large Gatherings of people such as this can provide easy pickings for thieves. If you present them with easy opportunities they will take them. If you are reporting the theft of a mobile phone you will be required to first contact your network provider and have the handset blocked. This will ensure that its use will be blocked across all UK networks even if the SIM card is changed, and will render it useless to the thief. A list of contact numbers for UK network providers is available at the Information and Welfare Tent. West Yorkshire Police are not based on site but their command is run from Wetherby Police HQ. The crime reporting number is 01924 293523. Only in an extreme emergency should you call 999. Crimes can also be reported via Security"

Please use the lockers at left luggage point near the arena entrance to store your belongings.

Car sharing will help save you money by splitting the petrol costs, reducing the amount of congestion on the roads leading into the festival, and getting you onsite quicker. Of course by car sharing you’ll also be kinder to the environment by reducing fossil fuel use and CO2 emissions. If you have to come by car to the festival because the bus or train just won’t work for you, please try and fill up all the seats in your car.

So Double Up & Cut Down …  four people in your car will bring the per person CO2 impact down to less than travelling by train. Join forces with others and fill up all your seats.

Last year we had 130 liftshare matches and we’d like to try and reach 500 this year.

Below are three schemes you can join. Have a look through them and see which one suits you.

SAFETY FIRST

Please read this practical safety guide on liftsharing put together by A Greener Festival: www.agreenerfestival.com/Lift_Sharing.pdf

•           Please note that all arrangements which you make are private arrangements between you and other sharers. The Festival does not arrange lift sharing or have any liability to or for lift sharers.
•           Make sure you know the identity of the person or persons you are sharing with.
•           Having a home telephone number is sensible precaution and make sure you leave details of the lift share, the driver and passenger's number(s) and home address if possible with friends and/or family.
•           Take your mobile phone with you.
•           If you are at all uncomfortable with any arrangements, or the condition of the vehicle being used, then make other plans.
•           If a vehicle is not taxed it is possible the driver has no driving license, no insurance and no MOT.
•           Safety first: trust your instincts and use common sense.

Lost children are looked after by the Welfare team and all relevant agencies are contacted.
Lost people should go to the Welfare tent.
Bramham Park is a parkland estate. The arena is fairly flat but some backstage areas are very steep, including the route from the disabled campsite through the hospitality area, into the arena. It is, however, the best and most convenient location for the campsite. The ground is generally uneven and grass throughout with no pathways or covered walkways. Adverse weather conditions can drastically alter the ease of movement. We are always looking at ways to improve access.
These will allow your early admission to site at 1400 on Wednesday, instead of Thursday.

- These are now completely sold out -

REDUCE YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT

Do you know that the biggest CO2 impact on festivals is simply through the audience travelling to get there? In 2007 30% of people travelled by Bus or Train to get to Leeds Festival, and we want to try and increase that this year. We have put some excellent public transport options to get you to the festival without any fuss and with the minimum environmental impact as possible.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Travelling by coach to the festival is by far the lowest impact way if you’re looking to reduce your carbon footprint. Train is the next best option in terms of CO2 emissions. Coming to the festival by coach or train will also help to reduce congestion in the carparks and on the surrounding road. Shuttle buses from the train stations make your trip to the festival really easy.

Emissions: If you travel alone to the festival by car, you are emitting approximately TEN TIMES the amount of CO2 than if you travelled to the festival by bus and three and a half times as much as if you travelled by train.

Congestion: Coming to the festival by coach or train will not only reduce total CO2 emissions, it will also help to reduce congestion in the carparks and on the surrounding roads.

BY COACH
National Express coaches are the greenest form of motor transport with each journey generating less than 10% of CO2 of those who travel by car. Not to mention a solution for congestion. For each coach full of people, it is estimated that this is equivalent to 25 cars off the road. So relax, let somebody else do the driving and do your bit for the environment.

Click here for more information on travelling with National Express

BY TRAIN
National Express, Cross Country, TransPennine Express and Northern and East Midlands Trains run trains to Leeds City Station. There are no special services but the local networks are aware of the festival. There may be engineering works affecting services so please call 08457 484950 before travelling.

SHUTTLE BUS
There will be frequent shuttle buses running from Leeds City Railway Station and Leeds Coach Station to Bramham Park. There is also a service from York Station on Thursday and back to York Station on Monday.

Click here to download the full timetable in Excel (.xls) format.

The shuttle bus stops will be signposted from the Railway Stations and Coach Station.

There is plenty of capacity on the buses for all of your stuff and you will not have to walk far to the campsites onsite from the bus station nor will you have to walk far from the Railway Station / Coach Station to the bus stop.

Full information is available on this website, on the Travel page.

CAR SHARE
If you have to come by car because the bus and train just won’t work for you, please try and fill up all the seats in your car. As an example, if you’re driving an average sized petrol car, having four people in it will bring your impact down to just a bit more than travelling to the festival by train, and just under twice as impactful as travelling by coach. So it really does make a difference if fill up all the seats.

Please visit the Travel Page on the left hand menu to find all the info you need on how to get to the festival by public transport.

_____________

Figures for these calculations were taken From DEFRA July 2007 Report: Passenger Transport Emissions Factors. http://www.defra.gov.uk/environment/business/envrp/pdf/passenger-transport.pdf

Car Travel (average sized petrol car)
- 335 gram C02 per mile (1 passenger)
- 167.5 grams CO2 per passenger mile (2 passengers)
- 83.75 grams CO2 per passenger mile (4 passengers)

Train Travel (National Rail diesel trains – average passenger numbers per annum)
- 96.32 grams per passenger mile

Coach Travel (Annual average figures of coach types and carriageways)
- 32.88 grams CO2 per passenger mile

• Children under 13 (12 and under) are admitted free when accompanied by a ticket holding adult.
• Passport to Leisure discount available from Leeds Gateway Yorkshire, there are a limited number of these.
• Disabled customers please see 'DISABLED FACILITIES'.
• No other discounts are available.
• Only tickets purchased from authorised agents will be admitted.
Tickets purchased from other sources will be refused admission.
• No other discounts are available, click here for ticket page.
The campsite is shared with between guests and disabled customers. Due to the fire risk it is a condition of our licence that cars and tents be separated. We will reserve the parking spaces closest to the campsite for disabled customers displaying a car pass.

Each disabled customer may have up to three people camping with them, and one car. If you wish to camp in a larger group, you can do so in any of the public campsites.

We give disabled customers access to the hospitality area. The route from campsite to the hospitality area is a newly cut path through a wooded area and the ground is rough.

The hospitality area features a covered bar, seating, music, food and toilet facilities. The area is all grass and a natural ‘V’ shape. LIMA GATE is the most direct route from the guest area into/out of the arena, for which you require a DISABLED ACCESS wristband. There will be a charging point for electric wheelchairs in the campsite.

Leeds Festival has been planned in compliance with BS8901, Phase 1.

Festivals are full of young, fun loving and like-minded people but beware they are also an easy patch for career criminals and opportunists who know how festival goers tick, and the Leeds Festival is sadly no exception and so please read through the advice below and plan ahead for the event.
Festival Republic, the Leeds Festival organisers, and West Yorkshire Police have teamed up together to provide information to both festival goers and parents alike that may help those who will be attending the  Leeds Festival this year..
As with each year, we are all keen to ensure that  festival goers do what they can to prevent themselves from becoming a victim of crime and we have compiled the following festival savvy tips – some tips probably wouldn’t work anywhere else but at a festival!

1. VALUABLES
Quite simply – please DON’T BRING THEM!  Don’t be flash.  Ipods, MP3 players etc - you don’t need them here – there is enough going on for you to be entertained without them.
If you have to bring them please use the left luggage facility rather then store them in your tent.
Campsite Assistance Teams (CATs) in the campsites have UV pens that you can use to write your postcode or name onto any valuables for easy identification.
Split your cash and cards into two hoards so that if one lot goes – you have back up
Don’t carry anything valuable in your programme pouch or on a lanyard – unless it is kept hidden under a shirt or jumper.
Don’t carry anything in back pockets – the event is busier than Oxford Street, especially at the stages, and chances are you have had a drink and so you will be less aware than usual and pick pockets love it.  Pockets with zips are better.
Don’t leave anything valuable in your car – maybe go and check on your car twice during the show?  Leave your glove compartment empty and also open.

2. CAMPSITES
If you have any concerns about your safety in the campsites camp somewhere well lit, go near a fire tower or by your zone managers caravan.
Introduce yourself to campsite staff, show them where your tent is, stick a funny flag on it so it’s easy for them to see, and ask them to keep an eye out.  They will.
Introduce yourself to your neighbours and set up a neighbourhood watch system, it may sound naff but experience shows that the best and friendliest campsites are the ones with people in that make the effort to do so.  More friends to party with too.
Report anything or anyone suspicious to campsite staff – you can do this anonymously if you wish and that is what the staff are there for.
Don’t put a padlock on your tent as this will invite thieves.
Don’t bury your valuables by your tent as someone is bound to be watching.

3. PERSONAL SAFETY
Make sure your mobile is charged up on a daily basis - in the early afternoon - so that it is ok for the night when it’s dark, the stages get busy and you are more likely to lose each other.  Traders sell battery operated phone charges if you need them.  Ask at the information tent (in the Village near the Arena Entrance) for exact locations of these traders.  Plan ahead.  Festival time is slow and it can take a long time to get from A to B.
Keep your phone well hidden – how annoying would it be to lose all your contacts?
Stay in groups and be tolerant of friends slowing you down.
At night stay on the main roads in the campsites – don’t go exploring darker, quieter areas –you can do that in the day
Arrange an easy meeting point with your mates before you get to the event and also three times a day (eg.  2pm, 6pm and 1am) that you will be there if you get split up.  No one likes to be left to have fun on their own for long.
If you do become a victim of crime – DO NO RESIST – give them what they want and make sure you get a good look at them or their clothes, so that when you report them we have a good head start.  Also, make a note of exactly where you are if you can – look out for loos, fire towers, unusual tents, what colour the bunting is and what the road name is etc
The welfare tent is there for you in the Village near the arena entrance.  These facilities are there to help you if you need it.
If you have an incident with a security guard, steward or any other member of our staff that you want to tell us about – please make a note of their tabard number, or the name on their pass.  Without this information we can do very little as identifying them without this number or name is very difficult.
Please don’t be alarmed by our advice – just be fore warned that it does happen to some people and we don’t want it to be you.  Plan ahead.

If you would enjoy being in a quieter campsite, then please ask the security or CAT teams to direct you to the Brown campsite.

If you are driving to the festival, please drive carefully. Remember that traffic will be heavy along the festival routes - last year there were quite a few prangs with festival goers vehicles particularly along the A64 so please drive safely and carefully. For all of you who will be using the A1, the routes have changed this year, so please follow the signage carefully.

We will again have the Zone Manager positions in each campsite zone. The Zone Managers are on duty 24 hours based in and around their campsite office. They are there to run their zone and to help you with any questions or support. Please use them.
There is a 24 hour supermarket in the Village Area stocking most general provisions such as cigarettes, toiletries, ready meals, snacks, confectionary, drinks etc for sale at the registered retail price.
There are adapted toilets at each toilet block in the arena, at each stage viewing platform, in the disabled/guest campsite and in the hospitality area.
LEEDS FESTIVAL DOES NOT CONDONE THE USE OF, OR THE DEALING IN, ILLEGAL DRUGS ON SITE.

PREVENTION

The dealing in or use of illegal drugs is not condoned by Leeds Festival. It is illegal to take, to buy or to sell drugs. Drug enforcement laws are as applicable on site as anywhere else in the country. If you deal in drugs, it is likely that you will be arrested via security and handed over to West Yorkshire Police. There are covert police onsite who will take action as appropriate. Neither anti-social nor illegal behaviour will be tolerated and participants will leave themselves liable for eviction from the site.

Experimenting with drugs can lead to adverse reactions. Drugs can kill. The crowds and the sheer size of the Festival can be very frightening and disorientating and taking drugs could spoil your enjoyment of the event. If you do take drugs and you become ill, depressed or frightened please ask a steward to direct you to one of the many facilities on site which can help and support you.

You may be body searched at the entrance. Persons suspected of carrying items which may be used in an offensive or dangerous manner, or carrying out illegal activities within the arena or other parts of the site may be searched.

No-one will be allowed onto the campsite without proof that they also have a full weekend arena ticket for the festival. This will be policed across the festival weekend.

You will not be allowed to camp without a camping ticket! A camping ticket lasts for the whole weekend or just one night, it’s the same price. No rogue camping will be tolerated. Check back to this website before the festival for full details about camping, parking, safety and security.

Festival Republic

Festival Republic aims to do as much as possible to reduce the impact our business and our festivals have on the environment. We strive to use innovative solutions to fundamental areas of impact such as energy, waste and transport. We also delve deeper into specific areas of our events, looking for ways to minimise impact, often including festival audiences in helping make these changes happen.

Apart from the immediate benefit in ‘going green’ we hope Festival Republic’s focus on sustainable practices will impact the industry through our suppliers and contractors.

Having the audience participate in our green initiatives may also lead to similar actions in their everyday lives. In fact, much of our audience already acts sustainably at home, and expects the same when attending our festivals and events.

Read the Festival Republic Sustainability Policy here.

Office

We choose 100% green energy in offices. Our energy supplier puts energy produced from wind, solar, biomass etc, onto the grid, which we in turn buy from them. This is not a ‘green levy’ where an additional fee is used to pay for community based green energy projects and development.

In stationery purchasing, the ‘green choice’ is always the first alternative to consider when ordering. We use Evolve copy paper as it is uses 100% Post Consumer Recycled Paper content. Not a blend of virgin and recycled, and not from off cuts in the paper manufacturing process. The paper we use has had a previous life in homes and offices. We think that’s the best way to go.

We have comprehensive recycling in the office; recycling paper, cardboard, cans, glass bottles and various plastics. We also have a cartridge recycling service.

We use a green cleaning company, with no harmful chemicals used in the cleaning of our offices, making for a safe workplace for our staff and the environment.

Recently Festival Republic moved offices and this gave us an excellent chance to consolidate files and archive. We ‘harvested’ hundreds of lever arch folders which were taken to a scrap store project for redistribution to community groups including pre-schools and child care centres. We also disposed of our electronic equipment safely, with our old monitors and computer equipment making their way into the recycling system.

Waste & Recycling

Each of the areas our festivals and events are held have different recycling and waste facilities. We work with our waste contractor for each show to develop the best solution for each event. This may include active recycling by festival goers (such as at Latitude Festival), incentive based recycling projects (such as our bag of rubbish for a can of beer campaign or 10p deposit/refunds on pint cups at Reading & Leeds Festivals).

We plan to continually improve our waste management aiming to maximise recycling rates and minimise volume of waste to landfill. Additionally options are evolving in the waste management industry, such as new energy from landfill sites opening which we hope to work with in coming years.

Energy

Powering our events has an environmental impact both through using up non-renewable resources, and through CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions. We are working on solutions such as biofuels, microgeneration (solar/wind) and other options such as reducing demand. Keep an eye out for these renewable energy sources onsite this year.

If you are travelling by car please visit the: Leeds Festival 2008 Car Share Scheme www.liftshare.org operated by Liftshare.

Car sharing will help save you money by sharing the travel costs, reduce the amount of congestion on the roads resulting in you arriving more quickly as well as being kind to our environment.

Please read this practical safety guide on liftsharing put together by A Greener Festival: http://www.agreenerfestival.com/Lift_Sharing.pdf

Disabled Access Wristbands give access the viewing platforms. Platforms are solely for disabled people and PA’s. We plan to have a viewing platform at every music stage.
Access ramps will have at a gradient of 1:12. There will be lighting on the main stage ramp and some seating for PA’s. The Main stage platform is not covered.
Attitude Is Everything provides a number of disabled stewards on the viewing platforms.
Use of laser and strobe lights at the event will be preceded by announcements from the stage. Those affected should allow sufficient time to leave the area before effects begin, bearing in mind it can be slow to move through the crowd.

Customers must exchange their ticket for a wristband as soon as possible after arriving on site. Re-admittance to the site is possible once they have been wristbanded. Entrance to the arena is only possible with a valid wristband, tickets will not be allowed through at this point.

Wristbands removed from wrist or tampered with will be rendered invalid and will not be replaced

IMPORTANT! - PLEASE NOTE: the locker sizes are 25cm wide x 15.5cm deep x 10cm high - so they are the right size for small valuables (mobiles, wallets, cameras). The Locker is used at Hirers own Risk

Walking or riding your bike to the festival will obviously put out the least amount of CO2 emissions, but that’s not practical for everyone. If you’re looking for motorised transport, travelling by coach to the festival is by far the lowest impact way to travel if you are looking to reduce your carbon footprint in association with attending the festival. Train is the next best option in terms of CO2 emissions.

If you travel alone to the festival by car, you are emitting approximately TEN TIMES the amount of CO2 than if you travelled to the festival by bus and three and a half times as much as if you travelled by train.

Coming to the festival by coach or train will not only reduce total CO2 emissions, it will also help to reduce congestion in the carparks and on the surrounding roads.

If you have to come by car because the bus and train just won’t work for you, please try and fill up all the seats in your car. As an example, if you are driving an average sized petrol car, having four people in it will bring your impact down to just a bit more than travelling to the festival by train, and just under twice as impactful as travelling by coach. So it really does make a difference if fill up all the seats.
